Mounjaro weight-loss injections.

You may have heard on the news that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June 2025.

Whilst this is true in some parts of the country, GPs in South East London need to refer to local weight management services for this.

The criteria to qualify are very strict.

Calculations say that there will be 220,000 patients UK wide that will qualify.

The criteria to qualify is as follows:

•BMI of 40 or more (you need your weight and height to find out your BMI) it will need to be checked using our scales and if it is not above 40 please do not send an AccuRx

If BMI is above 40 then you will also need to have been diagnosed with four of the following five criteria

1. Diagnosed hypertension

2.Diagnosed sleep apnoea

3.Diagnosed type 2 diabetes

4.Diagnosed cardiovascular disease

5.Diagnosed hypercholesterolemia

If you do not have a BMI above 40 AND four of the conditions above then the GP will not be able to refer you for Mounjaro for weight loss. (Based on the current guidance). Hence we politely request that you do not send us an AccuRx requesting it.

Please see below link for the official policy statement from South East London ICS (Integrated Care System).
